About the Winemaker
Scott Rich was introduced to winemaking in the home of a family friend who made wine in their Salt Lake City basement. Coupled with a father who was inclined toward Burgundies– lots of ‘em– it seemed as though Scott was destined for the vine. He went on to study Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design at UC Davis, but then realized winemaking was his true passion. He returned to his alma mater, graduating once more with a degree in Viticulture and Enology. Scott has worked at many esteemed wineries, and we are very fortunate to work with him to make Styler.
“The goal in winemaking is always to try to be true to the origins of the grapes,” says Scott. “Pinot Noir is very sensitive to where it is grown, and exploring the differences within that realm fascinates and drives me to continue in the pursuit of interesting and uncovered regions. We want to accurately reflect the places our grapes come from by letting them speak for themselves through a hands-off process that, as easy as it may sound, doesn’t come naturally to most.”
